1st – 15th July 2023
As you touch down in Bali, you’ll feel a sense of anticipation and excitement stirring deep within you. You’ll make your way to your hotel and meet the guides and crew who will be with you on this thrilling journey.
You’ll start your day off by joining the Bali Reptile Rescue team to track and rescue King Cobras. Then, as the sun sets, you’ll venture out for some night herping in search of pit vipers, kraits, and retics.
Once you’ve completed your snake rescue mission, it’s time to conquer the majestic Mount Agung! After taking in the breathtaking views from the summit, you’ll embark on a thrilling herping adventure in search of the elusive banded sea kraits.
After a flight to Labuan Bajo, you’ll hop aboard a big boat and set sail for Komodo Island. On the way, you’ll have the chance to snorkel with majestic schools of mantas.
You’ll spend the next two days exploring the island and encountering its legendary inhabitants: the Komodo dragons. In addition to spending time with these magnificent creatures, you’ll also embark on a hike to track wilder dragons and enjoy some exhilarating island night herping.
Your next stop is Rinca Island, where you’ll search for Komodo dragons and Sumatran spitting cobras during the day, and Russel’s viper, Timor python, and Sunda Island pit-viper at night. And when you’re not herping, you’ll be snorkeling amidst the beautiful coral reefs and beaches surrounding the island.
You’ll spend the next two days exploring Padar Island and its neighboring pink beaches in search of the blue color morph of the Lesser Sunda pit viper. These vipers are known to occur on only a few islands in Komodo National Park, making this an exciting and rare opportunity. And, if you’re lucky, you may also spot green and yellow morphs.
You’ll take a flight from Komodo National Park back to Bali for a night of rest before your next adventure.
You’ll depart Bali for the island of Java, where you’ll settle into your accommodations before heading off to explore the Salak Mountains.
Our first stop is the super eagle sanctuary, where we’ll be on the lookout for the elusive Craspedocephalus puniceus, Boiga drapiezii, Rhacophorus reinwardtii, Microhyla achatina, Gekko kuhli, and Nyctixalus margaritifer. If we’re lucky, we may even be able to spot all of these species.
Next up, we’ll head to the plantation area of Cibanteng Bogor to search for Ptyas korros, Ahaetulla prasina, Ahaetulla myxterizans, Boiga multomaculata, Dendrelaphis pictus, and Polypedates leucomystax. The following day, we’ll move on to Ciampea, located near Cibanteng, where we’ll explore a limestone hill habitat in search of Trimeresurus albolabris, Calloselasma rhodostoma, Pareas carinatus, Dendrelaphis pictus, and Gecko gekko.
On our fourth day, we’ll head to Sukamantri buper to meet Xenodermus javanicus, Aplopeltura boa, Philautus aurifasciatus, Megophrys montana, Rhacophorus margaritifer, and Gonocephalus kuhlii. This will be an incredible opportunity to see a variety of species in their natural habitats.
After an unforgettable expedition, it’s time to say goodbye to Java and head back to Bali. Take some time to reflect on the incredible experiences you’ve had and the amazing creatures you’ve encountered.
