Our curated journey immerses you in the enchanting northwest corner, set at an altitude of approximately 1400 meters. Traverse the vast Kalahari sands watershed plains, stroll through towering evergreen forests adorned with orchids, and explore seepage-fed grasslands and miombo woodlands. This region boasts a captivating blend of Zambezian and Guineo-Congolian specials, with a focus on regional endemics spanning from eastern Angola through Zambia’s Northwest into Katanga.

October, with the first rains, marks the prime reptile-spotting season, while a diverse array of amphibians awaits your discovery. Encounter iconic snake species such as the Katanga Bush Viper, Gaboon Viper, Forest Vine Snake, and Splendid Dagger-tooth Snake. Lusaka Arrival

Upon arrival in Lusaka, you will transfer to the town of Mumbwa, a 3-hour drive through urban and rural Zambia.

Day 2-3

Kafue Ecosystem

Venture into the expansive Kafue Ecosystem, just an hour's drive from Mumbwa. This national park, spanning over 2 million hectares, is surrounded by vast reserves. Our exploration focuses on the thriving northeastern section, encompassing Musangashi Conservancy, the Lunga-Lushwishi Game Management Area, and adjoining segments of the national park. Renowned for hosting the world's highest antelope diversity, this region promises sightings of diverse megafauna, including majestic Lions, majestic Elephants, and the formidable Hippopotamus.Delight in the possibility of encountering the "Snake Big Five" – Rock Python, Black Mamba, Black-necked Spitting Cobra, and Puffadder, which thrive in significant numbers here. Marvel at the presence of Nile Crocodiles and Nile Monitors in this wildlife-rich habitat. Mutanda to Kakoma

As we venture into the remote Mwinilunga area, today unfolds as a journey through diverse habitats, including the vast wet Kalahari plains – among Zambia's largest. While primarily a travel day, the landscape offers a rich tapestry of birdlife, featuring local gems like Grimwood's Longclaw. Keep a keen eye for intriguing reptiles along the way, with possibilities of encountering the elusive Bell's Hinged Tortoise.Our exploration promises not just a passage through landscapes but an opportunity to witness the unique biodiversity that graces the Mwinilunga area.

Day 6-7

Kakoma

Embark on a two-day exploration of Nyachisala Forest, Zambia's largest evergreen rainforest, known for its unique mix of Zambezian, Katanga, and Guineo-Congolian specials. Our main focus is the rare Katanga Bush Viper, found in only a few locations, with Nyachisala being a prime site. Discover diverse reptiles like Iven's Skink and Western Serpentiform Skink, alongside other specials such as Heenen's Dwarf Gecko, Jackson’s tree snake and Gaboon Viper.Explore wet grasslands teeming with amphibians, including Dewitte's Leaf-folding Frog and Cinnamon-bellied Reed Frog. While mammals are scarce due to the lack of protection, we hope to encounter possibly undescribed species of Dwarf Galago and, with luck, Lord Derby's Anomalure. Nyachisala's birdlife includes Vermiculated Fishing Owl and Shining-blue Kingfisher, offering a rich ornithological experience in this biodiverse rainforest.

Kakoma to Jimbe

Embark on a full day's journey through captivating landscapes on unhurried roads. Traverse the remarkable Chitunta Plain and make a noteworthy stop at the Source of the Zambezi, where intriguing reptiles and amphibians may grace our path.Our destination is the Bushcamp at "Mad Man's Crossing" on the Jimbe River near Salujinga, a tranquil spot not far from the trinational point with Angola and the DRC.

Jimbe Drainage

Delve into two full days of exploration in the Jimbe Drainage, renowned for its exceptional snake diversity. This corner has unveiled numerous reptile treasures, with recent discoveries including the Forest Vine Snake, Yellow-collared Snake-eater, Gaboon Viper, Thirteen-scaled Green Snake, and Forest Hinged Terrapin. The rich amphibian population features gems like the Cinnamon Tree Frog, Chapin's River Frog, Lameere's Squeaker, and a possibly undescribed tiny Forest Toad.Additionally, a yet-to-be-described (sub)species of Giant Squirrel was identified here in 2023, adding to the area's biodiversity allure.
